Common Questions
Answers to what people often ask before getting in touch.
What happens during the first consultation?
The first meeting is a chance for us to hear your situation without any pressure. We will ask some questions, explain how family law applies to your circumstances, and outline the options available to you. You are under no obligation after the session.
How long does a divorce process typically take in Malaysia?
For a joint petition where both parties agree on arrangements, the process can take from three to six months. Where matters are contested, timelines vary depending on the complexity of the issues involved. We will give you a realistic picture at your consultation.
Will everything I share with the firm remain private?
Yes. We are bound by professional confidentiality obligations. What you tell us stays within the firm. We encourage you to share openly so we can give you the most helpful advice.
How are child custody matters decided under Malaysian law?
The courts consider the best interests of the child as the primary concern. Factors such as the child's age, which parent has been the main carer, schooling, and the child's own wishes (if old enough) may all be taken into account. We guide clients through this process step by step.
What are your fee arrangements?
Our consultation starts from RM 240. Divorce representation is from RM 720, and child arrangement matters from RM 1,500. We are transparent about costs from the outset and will discuss what is involved before any work begins.
Can mediation help in my situation?
Mediation can be a constructive way to reach agreement on key issues without the need for lengthy court proceedings. It tends to work well when both parties are willing to engage. We can advise you on whether it is worth exploring in your particular circumstances.
